Interesting article in the Wall Street Journal about attempts to study the carbon footprint of different products
The surprising lesson, at least for me, is that transportation does not account for much of the carbon footprint of several products. Sometimes is one of the raw materials (leather, polyester), sometimes is the presentation (refrigerated beer), sometimes the natural production processes (milk -- cows produce lots of methane). It's also a very practical read that you can turn into action.
